It looks like a magnolia cone and fruit. Shoot, I sure wouldn't eat any of that bright red seed... looks suspiciously like a red warning color common to toxic fruit. but I looked it up and you can too...

magnolia seeds are kinda like maple seeds plentiful but slightly toxic if i had my choice id stick to more common seeds like ammaranth or plantain a good rule of thumb is if it smells like almonds or...

From a distance, those magnolia cones are a bane to morel hunters. Much like conifer cones.
